Red June
Red June is a dynamic, acoustic trio from Asheville, NC, performing beautifully distilled Americana music. The Red June sound is as versatile and original as the musicians themselves; they touch on bluegrass, old-time, roots rock, and traditional country music with powerful harmonies, innovative songwriting and expert musicianship. Red June is Will Straughan on dobro, guitar and vocals, fiddler and vocalist Natalya Weinstein, and John Cloyd Miller on mandolin, guitar and vocals.
“Red June literally knocked our audience out! Ovations, spontaneous applause, laughter, and just wonderful music. But what made it unique was the expertise and ease in so young a group, knocking off gorgeous harmonies, and great solo lines...”
- Tom McHugh, Director, The Mainstay in Rock Hall, MD
Veteran musicians Straughan, Miller and Weinstein formed Red June in late 2008 after working in other acclaimed groups, namely the Emma Gibbs Band, Lo-Fi Breakdown and Polecat Creek. Despite being a relatively new project, Red June has already performed at Bristol Rhythm & Roots Reunion, Shakori Hills Grassroots Festival and the Lake Eden Arts Festival (LEAF). Red June will also be performing at the 25th annual Merlefest in April 2012.
Their highly anticipated debut album, Remember Me Well (September 2010), was voted #1 in WNCW’s Regional Top 20 Contest, and #31 in their Top 100 of 2010 contest. Remember Me Well was funded, in part, by a Regional Artist Project Grant from the North Carolina Arts Council and the Asheville Area Arts Council. Red June is constantly creating new material and is currently working on a follow-up recording to Remember Me Well to be released in spring of 2012.
